Lapsang Souchong Unsmoked

Rarely exported to the west, this unsmoked Lapsang Souchong from the original LPS tea farm lets the base tea sing. Mellow, silky, harmonious, sweet and clean, with notes of dried plum. Little to no astringency makes this is an easy cup to enjoy.

Most LPS in the west is smoked, but it is the unsmoked version that is enjoyed by the locals in the Wuyi mountains. This authentic unsmoked LPS, known as Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong in Chinese, is handmade with the buds and 2 partly opened leaves. It is picked at altitudes of nearly 1500m in Tong Mu Guan, Wuyi Mountains – a national nature reserve and the heart of the Lapsang Souchong tea producing area. The tea garden is surrounded by dense pine forests (used in the production of smoked Lapsang Souchong) and shrouded in heavy mist which are perfect for growing premium tea.   

The handpicked leaves are fully oxidised and given a final drying with charcoal heat. 

Lovely on its on. Also drinks well with oily food as it effectively rinses the mouth.
