Darjeeling 2nd Flush, Giddapahar Muscatel SFTGFOP 1Summer 2016
This fully oxidised Darjeeling produces a deep amber-coloured infusion. The round, rich and full palate reveals juicy muscatel flavours, hence the name, with sweet woody notes. A very solid second flush.
Origin: Kurseong, Darjeeling
Variety: Camellia sinensis sinensis
Giddapahar, meaning eagle cliff, has been in the same family since its inception in 1881. The 94 hectares of tea fields reach up to an altitude of 1,585m, meaning cool conditions slow the leaf growth, and allow the development of more complex flavours. Checked growth also allows for a more considered, quality pluck in the field.
SFTGFOP 1 is the highest whole-leaf grading, and these lovely leaves exhibit the sweet muscatel character always hoped for in second flush Darjeelings, but not always achieved. It’s one of the finer lots in what was a very wet year, showing rich character and a good quantity of tips.
