£160 Cup of Teaon Jul 22, 2019
A £166 cup of tea being served at The Rubens Hotel near Buckingham Palace made front page news of The Times the other day, with the rejoinder: "that really takes the cake".
The tea being served was a white bud tea ("Golden Tips") from Dimbula, Sri Lanka. No mention of the tea garden (anyone?), but a silver teapot and gold tweezers were all part of the service of this tea.
This is great publicity, and a bit of fun, and roundly reminds me of the need to write a blog post on the value of tea – a vastly under priced product. But, at £160 per cup, I'd want to keep the gold tweezers.
How much are you prepared to spend on a cup?
